An Excellent Upgrade! The New Balance 858 is an upgrade of the New Balance 857. So What's New? New to the 858 has a seamless liner for better fit, full-length ABZORB for max shock absorption, a lower toe-box and the SBS cushioning pad in the rearfoot is now a shaped insert. The N-Lock lacing system has been reduced and a lightning dry system means the shoes dry quickly. What We Think: The cushioning and heel-to-toe transition is vastly better than the 857, providing a smooth and stable ride. have improved and overall it gives a smooth ride. However, it still feels and looks slightly too bulky. Although this is a compromise worth making for the increased support. In conclusion; if you liked the 857 you'll love this shoe. If you didn't like it, this is a change for the better. More flexible under the forefoot, softer cushioning, but more responsive and it has a lighter feel. Perfect for long distance runs and useful for shorter speed sessions. Excellent improvement for this season.
