Best running shoes / trainers for gym use
More and more people are now using gyms, especially through the colder months. Therefore we thought that we should do some research into the best running shoes / trainers for gym use.
Our main criteria were to find shoes that were suitable for running on a tread mill, robust enough in the toe gait to prevent abrasion from the rowing machines and spinning bikes, whilst providing ample support for aerobics and circuit training. Here are our suggestions.
Asics Gel Treadmill
If your main reason for going to the gym is to use the treadmill then this is the shoe for you. As the name suggests this shoe has been developed for use on Treadmills. Asics have rounded the heel for better transition, reduced the cushioning to make it lighter and added a more breathable mesh.

Adidas Micro Bounce X-Training Shoe
Unsurprisingly this is a “bouncy” shoe. However the extra bounce is structured in such a way that you feel like you have springs attached to your feet. This is a perfect shoe for circuit training or aerobics.

Nike Air Structure Triax 11+
This shoe provides the perfect mix of cushioning and fit for gym use. The Triax 11+ is supportive, breathable and lightweight. It is also Nike+ compatible to help you pass the time on the Treadmill!

Asics Gel Nimbus 9 2008
We love this shoe and it is easy to see why. Not only does it look good it performs amazingly. There is plenty of cushioning and support for aerobics or circuit training whilst it’s smooth heel to toe transition makes it ideal for the Treadmill.

Saucony Progrid Triumph 5
The robustness of this shoe has been compromised by its style and functionality. Hence it is likely to wear around the little toes if you use foot bindings. However this may be a compromise worth making. We found the Triumph 5 to provide excellent control when turning sharply, ample cushioning when landing and great breathability.

UKgear GT-02
This is the “hardcore” choice of the group. Developed by UK Gear in conjunction with the UK military the GT-02 will not let you down. This is illustrated by many of the country’s top X-training competitors wearing the GT-02. Unlike the Progrid Triumph 5 you have to compromise style for functionality, but we bet GT-02 would outlast all of the other shoes.
